Campfire Bars in Jars

Many things inspire me to create in the kitchen.  Sometimes it’s another recipe.

This week for we are creating inspirations based on the book Desserts in Jars by Shaina Olmanson.  Who doesn’t love portable desserts?  Pies ready to pack for picnics!  Brownies ready for the beach?  Cake ready for carnivals!  I DO I DO!!

When I thumbed through it, the one recipe that stood out for us were the Campfire Bars Mix.  It looked SO COOL all layered there in the jar AND it was something that we were familiar with; campfires.  All marshmallowy, chocolately, chewey goodness.  I was hooked!  THAT was the inspiration I needed to get my jars out.  🙂

The granola…there’s SO many flavors.  I wanted to chose recipes that could incorporate my fave granola flavors.  Cinnamon apple, banana, and chocolate chip.  Hmm…cinnamon apple.  I’m thinking caramel, pecans.  Banana?  DUH!  PB!  Chocolate chip….hm…white chocolate macadamia?  YUM!  I can handle those!

So, while I was shopping for the ingredients, I didn’t really want 2 different packages of graham crackers floating around.  We don’t have enough pantry space as it is.  Luckily, I found Teddy Grahams and they have a multi-flavor snack pack box.  BINGO!  Then I was looking for a small bag of pretzels to use.  Nope.  Pepperidge Farm Goldfish crackers in pretzel flavor.  BINGO!  I was all set!!  Those snack packs come in handy when you want to make multiple flavors of the same type of recipe, like this one.

So, you layer the ingredients in the jar.  You decorate the jar accordingly.  I have a topographic map on this one.  A starry sky on the cinnamon apple caramel bars.  And finally, a campfire clipart on the PB banana bars.

Chocolate graham crackers (Teddy Grahams), mini marshmallows, white chocolate chips, brown sugar, chocolate granola and macadamia nuts.

Pretzel crackers (Pepperidge Farm Goldfish pretzel crackers), mini marshmallows, peanut butter chips, banana granola, brown sugar, and roasted peanuts.

Honey granola crackers (Teddy Grahams), mini marshmallows, caramel chips, cinnamon apple granola, brown sugar, and pecans.

Then you attach the directions:

  • 8 tablespoons
    butter, melted

Cooking Directions
Preheat the oven to 350 F. Pour all the contents of the jar into a large bowl. Stir in the melted butter until all the pieces are coated. Press into a 9-inch square baking pan. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes. Allow to cool. Cut into bars and serve.

SO even though our suppers are sometimes around campfires, they’re still family dinners together.
