It adds a depth of flavor that balances out all the other sweet spices. Like adding black pepper to gingerbread cookies or Pfeffernüsse the black cardamom adds an umami flavor to the chai that I enjoy. But, it’s your chai mix so you can omit them if you want or try fewer black cardamom pods just to see what it tastes like.
