Cheesy Garlic Butter Waffles
Cheesy Garlic Butter Waffles have only three ingredients. They’re easy to make and taste so delicious!
I have had this waffle iron for decades. And I’m not kidding. Nana gave it to me when I went away to college. Yes. I did just date myself and I don’t care. Because I don’t look as old as I am. Sometimes I feel it, but I’m working on that. I won’t talk about my messed-up knees in this post.
Now, this little waffle maker of mine also has like a griddle attachment. Nana used to make sandwiches for us girls to eat when we visited here. I remember spaghetti and I think sloppy joes? Maybe a ham and cheddar or two. I must have really liked them for her to get me one to make my own. I don’t remember. But I do look fondly on this little waffle maker of mine. I don’t have the heart to replace it.
I have made quite a few waffle recipes. My fave are the mock Liege waffles. They are so good. I might have to make a new version of these. Maybe for fall flavors. They’re perfectly crisp with just a hint of sugar. If you don’t know me, I’m not a huge fan of all that sugar. That is why I liked that recipe. So much that I made them three times.
What else can you make in a waffle maker?
Of course, waffles aren’t the only things you can cook in a waffle maker. I have not been enormously brave to try much. I’ve made latkes and potato pancakes. Those waffled potato pancakes are so good. I do have to make that recipe again soon. There may some leftover mashed potatoes in the fridge. Hm…
You can throw some pasta in the waffle maker. Granted it won’t cook the pasta, but cooked pasta is fun to throw in there. Just think of it. Leftover macaroni and cheese heated in the waffle iron. If you’re the one that likes all the crispy bits on the edge of the casserole, then this is right up your alley. If you have regular pasta or even cooked rice try it in the waffle maker. It makes for a fun “bun” for an Italian sausage burger or Asian inspired burger.
How about something besides waffles for breakfast?
Then there’s a bunch of things you can cook up for breakfast. Eggs. Eggs can be cooked in waffle maker. You could totally whip up a bunch of these and have a nice egg Sammy to grab and go in the mornings. Of course, there’s hash browns and biscuits. Again, it’s all about the crispy bits for me in hash browns. I love mine extra crispy so I will have to try this. And then there’s bacon. What? Yes. I said bacon. Try cooking it in the waffle maker. It won’t curl up and be all unevenly cooked. Win win!
Heading to the snack food ideas, try some Mozzarella sticks or quesadillas in the waffle maker. Press your hot dog in the bun in there. It would be great to wrap the hot dog in some cheese first. Or you just press yourself a grilled cheese in the waffle maker. And something I never would have thought of. Falafel! Scoop the dough and press it to cook. Nice and crispy and delicious.
And then there’s the sweets.
Try cooking some cinnamon rolls or apple slices in the waffle maker. Cinnamon rolls of the canned variety are probably the best. While they rise, they don’t rise as much as homemade ones. I could be wrong. They say you can cook chocolate chip cookie dough and brownie batter in the waffle maker. I haven’t tried that, but I am definitely intrigued. Can you really? I may have to try that.
What do Cheesy Garlic Butter Waffles taste like?
Like super crispy and delicious dinner rolls stuffed with cheese and garlic butter. And with only three ingredients, you can easily whip these up any time. Of course, if you don’t have a garlic butter spread laying around the pantry like I did, then you can easily whip up a compound butter to put inside these waffles.
And you don’t have to use frozen dinner roll dough. Try some premade pizza dough from your favorite pizza place or the grocery. Of the canned pizza dough could work, too.
When I made mine, I put a 28 ounce can of tomato sauce on top to keep it closed. I cooked them for about 3 to 5 minutes. Maybe a little more. I really didn’t time it that well. By the time I prepare another 2 rolls it was time to take the two in there out of the waffle iron. That way they cook evenly and get that super crispy crust on the outside. Because for me, it’s all about that crunch!
I tried three different ways to make these.
I sandwiched two together. Then I sandwiched two together and super crimped the edges. Finally, I ended up just stuffing the rolls, pinching them closed, and putting them in the waffle maker. They didn’t lose much of their cheese and held in most of the garlic butter.
Just look at that golden brown color! And those strings of cheese that have escaped. The one on the bottom was the first attempt and it just splits in two. So not a good thing when you’re trying to keep things inside. That is why I tried three different ways and found that stuffing the rolls and sealing them was the best. And I even put the seam on top to try and keep everything inside.
So, I hope you step out of your waffle comfort zone and try something new in there. From crispy mac and cheese to cinnamon rolls and even eggs there’s a ton of fun ideas to make in your waffle iron.
