I never knew about this until right now, lol. My family is originally from West Africa, we regularly eat peanut butter soup with fufu. Ironically, I lived in the Williamsburg area.

i tweaked the recipe a bit and used sweet potatoes for the carrots and didnt use raw celery but celery seed…quick, easy, unique and delicious. served with an apple glazed pork loin with green beans and mac an cheese and biscuits.

It was very sad and disheartening that you mistakenly took my trying to correct historical misinformation personally and as a “tongue lashing”. It was definitely not intended as such. My post was pointing out that the information you provided, although much of it accurate, in no way lent the reader to knowledge of the fact that both George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, both alive during colonial times, adored peanut soup grown from Virginia peanuts and consumed it regularly. Colonial Williamsburg and other Virginia establishments serve the soup now in part specifically because of that fact and due to the historical significance of peanuts in Virginia, and because, as your recipe proves, it’s so tasty! Peace & Peanut Soup for all!

I think you misread me. I did not say it was not eaten during Colonial times. I said it wasn’t a common recipe on standard tavern menus as stated on this website: https://williamsburgvisitor.com/colonial-peanut-soup/. Thank you for your tongue lashing, though. You are correct that Peanut Soup is delicious but you are not correct siting it wasn’t served during colonial times. Both George Washington and Thomas Jefferson loved and consumed Peanut Soup. In fact, they were grown (peanuts) as a crop and we have historical records stating such. So, the delicious Peanut Soup served to tourists in Colonial Williamsburg is not only delicious but also a very accurate depiction of fare from Colonial times enjoyed by all. Thank you for your tasty recipe but please provide accurate information.

My daughters are learning about George Washington in their Am. History class. They have to make his favorite soup. The link provided didn’t work so i turned to Pinterest where I found your recipe. Its going yo be part of dinner tonight. Thank you for a nice eady recipe.
