When you think of mail order steaks, I’m sure you’re think of that “other” company. I know I did. I didn’t even think to look for another company that may be better, reasonable, and just better. Yes, I know I said that twice. But I was young and naïve. Now, I know better.

I was lucky enough to participate in a Bzz Agent campaign for Kansas City Steak Company. I say lucky enough because I received a nice coupon to purchase delicious meat from this company and delicious it was!!! There was SO many choices it took me a while to figure out what I wanted to order. I asked S for his opinion, too. We decided on rack of lamb and the prime rib roast.

Pictured are just a few of their delicious selections. Now, I have a love/hate relationship with lamb.

No, it’s not a love to hate it relationship. It’s a hit or miss relationship really. I’ve had it a few times. I’d say less than 10 that I can remember, and of those 10 I think I have loved it once. I’ve tolerated it twice and couldn’t stand it the rest of the time. So, to say I was a little nervous about this rack of lamb from Kansas City Steak Company was an understatement.

If the lamb isn’t the freshest of fresh, it has a gamey flavor to me. It’s not a pleasant flavor and it’s the reason I will never willingly eat venison unless I was starving and it was the last thing on earthy. No offense to those who love venison. I, personally, just can’t tolerate the taste no matter what I put on it flavor wise. I was afraid that this lamb might just have the same flavor.

You can imagine my delight when it was the freshest lamb I have ever tasted and it was amazing!!

Ordering from Kansas City Steak Company was super simple. My issue? TOO MANY DELICIOUS OPTIONS! Seriously. There’s roasts, steaks, chops, turkey, seafood, sides, desserts, you name it! Everything you want for a fabulous meal! I toyed with a couple of different roasts. I was very interested in the Kansas City strip loin roast. I like strip steak and thought it would taste fantastic. I was also intrigued by trying my hand at lamb. Of course, the prime rib roast was an obvious choice.

They package it fresh and then freeze it to lock in all that delicious flavor and freshness. Then they ship it with several freezer gel packets to ensure that it arrives frozen. It also helps that you can schedule your delivery date! I loved that! No more guessing when it will arrive, trying to figure out how long the shipper will take etc. I schedule the date for the package to arrive and it showed up like clockwork! How cool is that? No pun intended.

I put both roasts in the freezer as soon as we got home. I wasn’t planning on cooking either beauty up any time soon. When I planned to make the lamb, I took it out of the freezer at least 3 days prior to cooking; per the directions. Then I let it come to room temperature before I preheated my oven to 400 and went to town cooking this delicious rack of lamb up.

Since I’m a rack of lamb novice, I decided to do some research on how to cook this delicious rack prior the cooking it up for dinner. I wanted to make sure I knew how to cook the lamb, the perfect temperature, and different methods and rubs for the roast.

It was all worth it! I took the tiniest first bite ever just to be sure I would like it. It was perfect. The meat was fresh and deliciously flavorful. There was no hint of gameiness in the whole roast. It was moist, delicious, and as tender as a steak. I was hooked!! Lamb at AKHA whenever I wanted! YAY! I know S will be thrilled to hear that.

Since it was a rather generous coupon, I purchased the prime rib roast, too. Since we usually have a standing rib roast, I thought it would be a perfect substitute for our usual standing rib roast for our Christmas dinner.

No, I haven’t tasted it yet, but I can only imagine it will just as delicious tasty and flavorful as the rack of lab was. So, expect an update to this post in a few weeks letting you know how that roast turned out.

I was thrilled with the lamb, as you can tell. I was thrilled to find another meat delivery company that offered a large selection of choices at reasonable prices. Granted, they’re not for every day eats, but for a special dinner, you can find some budget friendly selections. And if you follow Kansas City Steak Company on Facebook, Twitter, Google +, and their blog, you could easily come up with some nice coupon codes and get some free steakburgers or maybe a dessert or two. Just like all shopping, you have to watch for the good deals to maximize your order!
