Cinnamon Pecan Macaron have the flavor of those fair cinnamon pecans in a macaron cookie. They’re packed with pecan and cinnamon flavors with a hint of caramel in the filling. #ChristmasCookies
Twice Baked Butternut Squash is a twist on the twice baked potato. The sweet squash is combined with prosciutto, goat cheese, and shallots then topped with Gruyere cheese for a truly scrumptious side dish. #HolidaySideDishes

Welcome to my food blog. My name is Christie. Here’s a little bit about me.

This journey started out as a recipe review blog in 2008. I wanted people to get real reviews of how recipes turn out, the equipment needed, successes, and failures.

They call me A Kitchen Hoor because I love kitchen gadgets more than shoes, clothes, make-up or other things my friends love.

Embrace the imperfections of home cooking. Sometimes you think you’ve failed but you’ve actually created something delicious.

my love for cooking started early

My family time was spent in the kitchen cooking or baking. I remember helping Nana cut Christmas cookies for the holidays when I was little. I spent many a morning helping her with biscuits, potato pancakes, or scrambling eggs for breakfasts. As I got older, I spent more time learning different cuisines, cooking techniques, ingredients, and kitchen tools.

As a teenager, Dad and I watched all the classic cooking shows on PBS. We learned about French, Cajun, Asian, and Italian food from epic chefs like Jacques, Julia, Martin Yan, and Emeril. The older my sister and I got, the more responsibility we had in the kitchen. We would write out the menu, help with shopping, and make sure dinner was on the table. I used to spend hours looking through cookbooks and magazines finding new recipes to make for dinner.

A Love for food continues

I started this blog as a recipe review blog. Some instructions are lacking, and I wanted to share my experiences with published recipes. Some of them were just total fails. After several years or writing about other people’s recipes, I was asked to participate in a campaign for cheese. That’s when I created my first recipe and published it on this little blog of mine. History was born.

Since then, I strive to share delicious recipes and honest instructions and processes. And this is made even easier with a husband that loves to cook just as much as I do. And he’s probably my hardest critic! But it’s all constructive and I’ve grown as a home chef through his reviews of my recipes. Some have been fails, but almost all have still been tasty.
