Air Fryer Pizza Toast
Pizza Toast is such a deliciously simple snack for any time! This one is topped with pepperoni and cheese, but you could top yours with anything you want!
I have no idea why I have not made pizza toast before. It’s so simple and taste so delicious! Pizza toast has few ingredients, is easily customizable, and is on the plate in about 10 minutes. And vanishes off the plate in about a minute. At least that’s how long it took me to devour a piece.
The kids are whining. They’re hungry! Because they haven’t eaten all day! Yeah, I know they just ate like 2 hours ago but that’s what they claim. Anyway, dinner is at least 2 hours away and you’re tired of hearing them whining about being starved to death and they’re gonna call social services for neglect. Yes. I know. That’s a bit much but kids are like drama queens these days!
What is pizza toast?
Pizza toast is basically toast topped with sauce, cheese, and pepperoni. It’s a quick and easy snack to throw together when the kids get home from school to tide them over until dinner. And something nibble on while doing their homework.
Now, if you’re kids aren’t fans of pepperoni, or you want to toss in something healthier for them on their pizza toast, then change up the toppings. I personally use the turkey pepperoni. I think it has a bit more spice than regular. You can try some veggie crumbles on top or just go for straight up veggies like peppers and onions.
Then there’s the cheeses. I’m fond of the combination of mozzarella and provolone. Sometimes I toss in a little cheddar or pepper jack for added flavor. If you’re going for more of a Hawaiian style you could use some Swiss cheese with the mozzarella. It’s a fun and delicious combination.
Why make this pizza toast in the air fryer?
What sets pizza toast apart from traditional pizza is its preparation method. Instead of being broiled in the oven or made in a toaster oven, this pizza toast is made using an air fryer. This modern kitchen appliance uses hot air circulation to cook food quickly and evenly. The result is a crispy, golden crust with melty cheese and perfectly cooked toppings.
Using an air fryer to make pizza toast offers some distinct advantages. It saves time. I don’t need to preheat the air fryer, though it does help. It saves time because the hot air circulates around the bread making it crisp on all sides a the same time so no need to flip the bread like you would in the broiler.
It also cooks easier and faster than an oven or toaster oven. This means that you can have a delicious, homemade pizza toast ready to devour in a matter of minutes. It’s a game-changer for those busy weeknights when you crave something quick, tasty, and satisfying.
Tips for Customizing Your Pizza Toast
When it comes to customizing your pizza toast, the options are virtually limitless. You can start by choosing your favorite type of bread as the foundation for your creation. Whether you prefer whole wheat, sourdough, or a gluten-free option, the choice is yours. Just make sure to select a bread that will hold up well in the air fryer, providing a crisp and sturdy base for your toppings.
You can really let your creativity shine with all the toppings. Traditional pizza toppings such as pepperoni, mushrooms, olives, and cheese are always a classic choice. However, don’t be afraid to venture outside the box and experiment with unconventional additions. How about some grilled chicken, pineapple, pulled pork? The beauty of pizza toast is that you can tailor it to your personal preferences and your picky eaters.
To take your pizza toast to the next level, consider adding a variety of seasonings and herbs. Sprinkle some oregano, basil, or red pepper flakes for an extra kick of flavor. A drizzle of balsamic glaze or a handful of fresh basil leaves can elevate the taste even further. The key here is to have fun and think outside the box. After all, pizza toast is all about exploring new flavor combinations.
Set out a pizza bar with toppings and let the kids pick what they want on their pizza toast. You might be surprised at what they pick to put on theirs. Ham and pineapple, pepperoni and peppers, or even some steak and brie! The sky is the limit as long as there are choices to be made for pizza toast.
What does air fryer pizza toast taste like?
The bread is crispy and delicious all around. It’s crispy enough to hold up all those toppings on top. It’s warm and inviting with the flavor of pizza but without all the effort of making a pizza. The pepperoni is crispy around the edges and sits atop a mount of melty and stringy cheese. I sprinkled mine with some homemade pizza seasoning. It brings home that total pizza flavor you’re expecting to taste.
It’s a good thing air fryer pizza toast is quick and easy to make because you’re kids, big and little, will ask for it as a favorite after school snack repeatedly. So make sure to keep lots of toppings on hand for your little ones to create their own favorite pizza toast. Be it pepperoni and cheese, sausage and mushroom, or Cuban pulled pork and cheese this recipe is perfectly customizable for even the pickiest of eaters.
