Caipirinha Colada
Caipirinha Colada is a pina colada combined with a caipirinha. It has that coconut and pineapple flavor you love with the cachaca flavor from the caipirinha.

I ran the gamut of fruits to pair a caipirinha with. I thought about dragon fruit, cherries, mango, lime, grapefruit, pear, apple. You name it. But I kept coming back to the pineapple in the fridge. But not just pineapple. Piña colada. Deliciously sweet with coconut and pineapple muddled together and topped with cachaça. Cachaça is a sugar cane liquor if you don’t know.
If you can’t find that, then you can easily substitute rum, but there’s something about cachaça that’s a little different from rum. I’d look for it if you can. Because trust me when I say you will want to make these repeatedly.

I can’t believe I made a drink, good. Lick the bottom of the glass good. Will be making these multiple times, good. You should go into your kitchen and make these now, good. Seriously. Good. If you don’t like pina coladas, then, I’m sorry. Maybe you’ll some of my other cocktail recipes.
The caipirinha is Brazil’s national cocktail. It’s a simple yet vibrant mix that captures the spirit and warmth of the country itself. Traditionally made with cachaça, fresh lime, sugar, and plenty of ice, the caipirinha is all about freshness and balance. Its roots stretch back to the early 20th century. Some credit Brazilian farmers who first mixed lime, sugar, and cachaça as a remedy for colds. Over time, this rustic concoction became a staple at celebrations and beachside gatherings. Its sweet-tart kick is synonymous with summer relaxation.

What is a Piña Colada?
Puerto Rico hails as the home of the piña colada. This creamy, dreamy cocktail emerged as the quintessential symbol of Caribbean leisure. A traditional piña colada combines rum with coconut cream and pineapple juice. There is still a debate around its exact origins. However most agree that bartender Ramón “Monchito” Marrero made the first piña colada in 1954 at the Caribe Hilton in San Juan. The result was an instant classic. It encapsulates tropical luxury in a frosty glass.

Before you start mixing, it’s important to know the difference between cream of coconut and coconut milk. While both come from the same humble nut, they serve very different roles in your cocktail glass. Yes, a coconut is an actual nut.
Cream of coconut is thick, sweet, and rich. I think of it as coconut milk but in condensed sweetened milk form. It’s packed with sugar and designed specifically for drinks and desserts. It’s what gives a piña colada, and coquito, its signature creamy texture and decadent sweetness.

Coconut milk, on the other hand, is much thinner and less sweet. It’s made by simmering coconut meat in water and then straining. This makes it great for soups and curries, but it won’t give your cocktail that creaminess you’re looking for.
Why This Mashup of Caipirinha and Piña Colada is Perfect
This unexpected blend is more than a quirky cocktail experiment. It has the earthy cachaça and vibrant lime. These are blended with tropical rum with pineapple and coconut. It’s a celebration of two cultures where music, dance, and hospitality reign. The acidity from the lime cuts through the creaminess of the coconut and pineapple. The cachaça’s grassy complexity brings new depth to the piña colada flavors. The result is a drink that’s refreshing, intriguing, and boldly fun. It’s refreshing and tropical flavors are perfect for hot afternoons and festive summer evenings.

Ingredients You’ll Need for a Caipirinha Colada
Fresh pineapple chunks, stevia or sugar, cream of coconut, caçhaca (or top shelf rum)
Instructions for making this Caipirinha Colada recipe
Place one or two pieces of fresh pineapple in the bottom of an old-fashioned glass. Add 2teaspoons of Stevia or sugar. Muddle them together until the sugar dissolves. Fill the glass 3/4 full with crushed ice. Pour the caçhaca or rum over the ice then drizzle with the cream of coconut.

With so few ingredients, I suggest you make sure they’re quality ingredients. Make sure the pineapple is fresh and not canned. It’s just not the same flavor for this cocktail. You want that tangy kick you get from fresh pineapple that canned lacks. Yes, you will have lots of cream of coconut leftover. And that just means you can make this tropical drink all summer long!
If you don’t have a muddler, you can use the handle of a wooden spoon. You can also shake the cachaca or rum together with the cream of coconut. I’ve tried both ways and both are delicious. And finally, make sure to save some pineapple for a garnish. Or make one of those dried pineapple flowers for a fancy garnish.
