Brieftons Spiral Slicer Review

Mine didn’t look that pretty coming out.  I still need more practice with this awesome spiral slicer.  Why, yes, you’re right!  I have reviewed a spiral slicer recently.  I’m still looking for the perfect one for Dad.  This Brieftons Spiral Slicer is pretty darn close to perfect!!  I gotta say…

And there is!  It comes with the slicer and this handy cleaning brush.  Trust me when I say you will need and use the cleaning brush often.  I did in the time it took me to slice up this radish and this cucumber.

There’s a reason they say and firm flesh fruit or vegetable.  The cucumber was bit cumbersome to try to spiral slice, but I stuck with it and produce some interesting results.

This is what the cucumber looked like I was finished.  It was a bit slippery and difficult to slice, but that’s not to the fault of the product.  I was just determined to make this amazing daikon radish and cucumber slaw for our Asian crab cakes.  I did.  And it was tasty!

And this is the radish sliced up and ready to go.  Looks much better doesn’t it?

There’s not so much of a learning as there is a learning curve.  LOL  It’s not difficult to operate, but there’s a pressure and strength element that goes into using these types of slicers.

Now, here’s what I loved:

  • The color!  It’s BRIGHT yellow.  Just looks cool.
  • The angle on the brush handle.  It can easily prevent injury when cleaning out the center of the slicer.
  • The instruction book!
  • The fact that Brieftons has lots of recipes on their website!
  • There are two sizes for your slicing needs.

What I didn’t like?

  • That my arms feel like spaghetti after using this.  It takes more upper body strength than I possess.  Don’t judge.
  • I would like a larger size slice.  But that’s the complaint I have with both the Brieftons and that other slicer.

Other than that, they’re perfect for the enthusiast who doesn’t have storage space for a larger spiral slicer.  It fits in a drawer and works perfectly!!  If you find yourself make more and more veggie based noodles then you might want to consider a more professional one.

I’m not that person.  What I DO love about spiral slicers is the simple fact that I can quickly process a zucchini or beet and then coarsely chop those “noodles” and have something larger than a shred with more texture and flavor.  Like I did with some zucchini enchiladas I made recently.

Either way you slice it (pun intended) the Brieftons Spiral Slicer is perfect for me!  It’s small and fits in our one butt kitchen and it’s a new gadget I don’t have to argue to get to keep!  Not that I really DO have to argue, but if I bring one more appliance into the apartment, I’m sure I’d get an eye roll and a head shake for sure!  Then I’d have to defend my reasoning behind purchasing it and well, it just wouldn’t be pretty.

So, do yourself and your tiny kitchen cabinets a favor and purchase this handy little spiral slicer.  Cause it’s AKHA approved!
